Diablo 4 is a much darker game than its predecessor, but it doesn’t mean there aren’t any moments of levity. Blizzard has added a small feature to the game that lets players pet dogs they come across in major towns and settlements. However, there are specific steps players must follow to trigger the animation.
The first step to pet a dog in Diablo 4 is to find one. Players will find dogs wandering around the streets of most major towns and settlements. When players walk up to a dog, it won’t react or even prompt players with any action. Wait for the dog to stop moving, which can take a few seconds, then stand beside the dog. It doesn’t matter which direction the dog is facing.
After that, bring up the emote wheel by pressing E on mouse and keyboard or up on the D-pad with a controller and select the “Hello” emote. Once the emote is confirmed, exit the wheel. If players are facing the dog, their character will greet the dog and bend down to give it a pat. The unique animation is worth checking out since it can’t be triggered any other way.
Even though petting dogs doesn’t offer any bonuses to the players, it is always a good thing to interact with the dogs in-game. Note that this feature is only available if players disable combat abilities in most major towns and settlements. Diablo 4 will be available on PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox One and Series X|S starting June 6, 2023, but players who preordered will get early access.
