Hogwarts Legacy was extremely popular on Steam, taking up the top four spots on the bestsellers list last week. It was well-received when released and the favorable critical reviews were echoed in its commercial success on the platform.

According to SteamDB results, it looks like Hogwarts Legacy has one of the highest current user numbers for a single-player game, with only Cyberpunk 2077 and Elden Ring surpassing it. At the moment, 872,429 people are playing Hogwarts Legacy, which is extremely close to Elden Ring’s peak players of 953,426 and unlikely to overtake the latter’s 1,054,388 record for Cyberpunk 2077. It was also shown that it amassed the most sales in its launch week on Steam, attaining one of the top four spots.

Benji-Sales posted a tweet that identified the ten most popular games available on Steam, with Hogwarts Legacy taking up four of the spots, each from either the standard or digital deluxe editions. A clarification was made in a later tweet that Steam considers pre-orders and release purchases to be separate, helping to explain the remarkable success of the Hogwarts Legacy, which costs much less than the Steam Deck starter package of $399.

It’s not unexpected that users of the Hogwarts Legacy digital deluxe edition got to enjoy 72 hours of early access plus some bonus cosmetics, seeing it currently at the summit of Steam’s highest-seller listings. February 2023 is going to be an interesting month, with Atomic Heart, Like a Dragon: Ishin!, and Destiny 2: Lightfall all set to be released. Other contenders in the lineup below the reigning title include Project Zomboid, Dead Space, Dying Light 2, and Destiny 2: Lightfall, with CS: GO Prime Status Upgrade at the very end of the pack.

The figures for the sale of consoles in all countries show Hogwarts Legacy to be a tremendous success for WB Games, and all indicators point to it becoming one of the top selling games of the year 2023. Reviews of users at Metacritic are overwhelmingly positive, with the PS5 version scoring a 9.1.

The video game Hogwarts Legacy can now be purchased and played on a PC and the new PS5 and Xbox Series X game systems. An earlier version of the game is also available for the PS4 and Xbox One and will be released July 25 for the Switch.
