Rumors are circulating that a special The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom-themed Nintendo Switch OLED could be released soon, just days after pre-orders opened up for the extremely expensive Switch exclusive at a rate of $70.
Speculation has been going on for some time now on the possibilities of a “Tears of the Kingdom” edition of Nintendo Switch OLED. It is particular to note that since the year 2016, Nintendo has offered several unique and exclusive console variants, including the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Switch OLED edition which was introduced in November 2022.
Reports are spreading that a special edition Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Switch OLED will soon be available for purchase, and if a SKU number leaked from GameStop’s backend is to be believed, the console will be up for pre-orders in a few weeks, beginning on March 10, 2023.
The end of Nintendo’s fiscal year being in March, a collector’s version of an old console of theirs could be a way for them to improve sales for the current reporting period. Despite this, it is still sensible to be cautious regarding this speculation and not believe it completely.
It’s possible that the March 10 date mentioned in GameStop’s system could be incorrect and the SKU could be nothing more than a placeholder. Additionally, GameStop is discounting pre-order sales of the Tears of the Kingdom–which had been listed at the original price of $60–showing that the retailer is not totally keeping up with Nintendo’s intentions and updates. To remember, Nintendo Switch releases have typically been coordinated with the game it was meant to represent, but this leak implies something different.
Altogether, there is a reasonable chance that a limited edition Switch OLED featuring the game ‘Tears of the Kingdom’ should be available, though it appears its official release will be closer to the end of April than the middle of March. Meanwhile, Nintendo already unveiled a special Zelda product in the form of the ‘The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Collectors Edition’. It includes a new Link amiibo, and pre-orders can now be placed.
The story of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will be available for purchase for the Nintendo Switch on May 12th, 2023.
