Arrowhead Game Studios has announced the release of Helldivers 2 in a recent statement. The much-awaited sequel is set to drop on PlayStation 5 later this year and promises to be bigger, better, and more hellish than the previous installment.
According to Katherine Baskin, Social Media and Community Manager for Arrowhead Game Studios, Helldivers 2 is a cooperative shooter that features frantic third-person action against massive enemy mobs. Players will step into the boots of an elite class of soldiers tasked with spreading peace, liberty, and Managed Democracy using the biggest, baddest, and most explosive tools in the galaxy.
The game is set in a fictional world called Super Earth, which is under attack from deadly alien civilizations conspiring to destroy it and its values. The Helldivers, as galactic peacekeepers, must protect their home planet, spread the message of Democracy, and liberate the hostiles by force.
In Helldivers 2, not only will players have a host of superpowered primary weapons and customizable loadouts, they also have the ability to call on stratagems during play. Players can decide how to take down each enemy surge using a multitude of offensive and defensive tools.
Collaboration will be vital in Helldivers 2. Teams will synergize on loadouts, strategize their approach for each mission, and complete objectives together. However, friendly fire is always on, making communication with squad mates crucial.
