Killing Eve’s star Jodie Comer and Stranger Things’ David Harbour have been confirmed to be part of the cast for THQ Nordic’s reboot of the classic survival horror game Alone in the Dark, set to be released before Halloween in 2023 on the PS5. Comer will play the role of Emily Hartwood, while Harbour will be the series’ signature detective Edward Carnaby.

The remake, loosely based on the 1992 original, comes with a free demo that can already be downloaded from the PS Store. This prologue, inspired by Alone in the Dark 2’s famous Jack in the Dark demo, allows players to explore the chilling backdrop of the Derceto Mansion and follows the story of supporting character Grace Saunders. Though the gameplay in the demo might differ from the main course, it sets the stage for the game’s atmosphere and horror elements.

Alone in the Dark could be described as looking like a low-budget Resident Evil, however, there’s clear promise in the game, especially the fact that the demo and showcase didn’t focus solely on combat. Reports based on previous showings confirm that the game is a frantic over-the-shoulder shooter with a range of difficult puzzles that will appeal to fans of horror games. The developer Pieces Interactive has promised to deliver a balance of puzzle-solving along with combat and a good variety of difficulty settings, allowing players to choose the level of guidance they want.

Despite being a hugely influential release, Alone in the Dark’s franchise hasn’t received the recognition it deserves in recent years. However, this reboot has been successful in putting the franchise back on track, and with stunning graphics and gripping content, the reboot is set to refresh the classic in all the right ways.

Overall, the final game looks extremely promising with the inclusion of Jodie Comer and David Harbour, top-notch graphics, and a range of puzzles. Fans of the horror genre should be absolutely excited for the reboot, which will release on the PS5 in 2023.
