Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered is getting its standalone release for the PlayStation 5 console later this month. Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered is a remastered version of Spider-Man’s PS4 outing and was previously only available to those who purchased the Ultimate Edition of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

The standalone PS5 version of Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered will be available on the PlayStation Store for $49.99 for those who are buying the game for the first time. However, those who already own any of the original PS4 versions of the game can upgrade to the remastered PS5 version for $10. It is important to note that PlayStation Plus members who claimed any edition of Marvel’s Spider-Man via their subscription are not eligible for the PS5 upgrade.

Insomniac Games has also announced a new upcoming prequel comic that will introduce The Hood to this Spider-Man universe. The comic will serve as a prequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The narrative director, Jon Paquette, said that the comic was developed because they wanted to explore a few different ideas about what kinds of stories they could tell in a prequel comic.

“When we initially sat down with the team at Marvel, we explored a few different ideas about what kinds of stories we could tell in a prequel comic. But we kept coming back to the same core premise–What if Peter, Miles, and MJ had to team up against a new Super Villain whose powers they didn’t understand?” Paquette wrote on the PlayStation blog.

The prequel comic will be available digitally on the Marvel Unlimited app or via Marvel.com on 6th May for those in the US. Also, it will be available at participating comic book stores. However, the release date for the rest of the world has not been specified yet.

As for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which is set to release in autumn, Venom actor Tony Todd recently hinted that autumn could mean this September.

Overall, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered standalone release is a long-awaited game for fans, and they can now experience the improved graphics and features of the PS5 version. Moreover, the prequel comic will be a great way to get some insights into the characters before the new game’s release.
