Mortal Kombat 1 has been officially announced for PS5 by Warner Bros and is set to release on September 19th, 2023. Fans are already excited for the immersive story campaign and reimagined versions of classic characters. The trailer above offers a first glimpse at the upcoming game.

The new game promises a new era of the Mortal Kombat Universe with a new fighting system, game modes, and fatalities. The rebooted version will include never-before-seen versions of iconic characters under the direction of Fire God, Liu Kang. Confirmed characters include Liu Kang, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Kung Lao, Kitana, Mileena, Shang Tsung, and Johnny Cage. Plus, a separate list of Kameo Fighters who can assist during matches to create expanded gameplay possibilities for players.

Pre-orders for the game come with a PS5 beta access in August. Players can choose between the base version for $69.99 or opt for the Premium Edition for $109.99. The Premium Edition includes a Kombat Pack, five days of early access, and 1,250 Dragon Krystals (premium currency). Kombat Pack entails a Johnny Cage character skin at launch that bears the likeness of Jean-Claude Van Damme. After release, six new playable characters and five Kameo fighters will be added.
