Solid-state drives (SSDs) are getting cheaper, but one item in particular – the 2TB Silicon Power XS70 – is raising eyebrows with its ludicrously low pricing. This SSD is currently on sale for just $110 on Newegg, and is one of the fastest PCIe 4.0 SSDs on the market.

When this 2TB drive was reviewed a year ago, it was retailing for $240 – and its performance had nothing to be desired. It was about as fast as the PCIe 4.0 interface would allow it to be. As such, it was considered a pretty decent buy. However, at less than half the original price, the Silicon Power XS70 is remarkably affordable.

Not only is it fast, but it comes with a formidable heatsink, making it an ideal option to drop into either a PlayStation 5 or PC as speedy boot storage. Moreover, if you’re a PC gamer, you’ll appreciate its great performance, attractive design, and value for money. Although it lacks its own software and hardware encryption, it’s a great choice if you want fast storage.

According to the review by Chris of PC Gamer,

“The XS70 performed well in the thermal test,” Chris said at the time. “A load temperature of 63°C for a top spec PCIe 4.0 SSD is outstanding, and it goes to show that modern high-performance SSDs require some kind of cooling, either from a bundled heatsink, or from a motherboard. Naked PCIe 4.0 drives are simply too hot.” Chris also stated that value for money was the biggest differentiator in the competitive performance PCIe 4.0 SSD market. And at this price, the Silicon Power is the only drive in town right now.

Generally, the price of SSDs has been gradually falling over time, but this is an outrageously good deal for such a fast 2TB drive. The Crucial P3 Plus and Western Digital’s WD Blue SN500 have been some of the cheaper alternatives we’ve seen but given the pricing of this SSD, none of them compares in terms of value.
