Star Wars fans eagerly waited for the release of the much-anticipated follow-up to 2019’s hit game, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was just released and is now available on PCs and consoles. However, fans wonder if they can play the game on the go using Steam Deck. Here’s what we know so far.

The game features “Metroidvania” exploration mechanics and challenging, Soulslike combat which is best suited for playing in the comfort of one’s living room or office. However, some gamers prefer to play games on the go, and the Steam Deck is one such platform.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor picks up the story five years after the events of Fallen Order with fugitive Padawan Cal Kestis leading sabotage and espionage operations against the Empire.

However, currently, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor does not run natively on Steam Deck. As of now, the game’s official Steam page does not mention the game’s compatibility with Valve’s new portable console. Any attempts to get it to run on the Steam Deck would be through technically unofficial means.

A technical report from Rock Paper Shotgun revealed that running the game on the Steam Deck is not an enjoyable experience. Even getting past the introduction scene without a crash is problematic. James Archer of Rock Paper Shotgun said, “Moment-to-moment performance simply isn’t good enough to enjoy with any degree of comfort. And that’s even assuming that you can make it past the introduction scene without it crashing.”

The situation becomes even more disappointing as Respawn has released patches to fix some technical complaints from players running the game on non-Steam Deck systems. It seems like Steam Deck is not the recommended way to play Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, at least for now.

So, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor enthusiasts will have to stick with computers and consoles to enjoy this epic game.
