Honkai: Star Rail, a popular turn-based RPG game with Gacha element, created by HoYoverse, who recently developed Genshin Impact, has garnered a lot of attention for all the wrong reasons. It has been suggested that if you play this game on Valve’s handheld device, the Steam Deck, your account can get suspended.

As the gaming world eagerly awaits the release of Steam Deck later this year, one thing they may want to steer well clear of is playing Honkai: Star Rail. This popular game has been officially released in PC and mobile versions and has managed to collect some very positive reviews. However, PS5 and PS4 versions of the game are currently under development.

A recent reddit post by a user named dexth77 detailed their account suspension of Honkai: Star Rail, a game which they had played on Steam Deck. A note from the developer cited the use of third-party software as the primary cause of suspension. Upon further discussion with other users, the post then declared that the user had used a third-party launcher while playing the game on the Valve device. They were originally using a native on Steam Deck but found that it wouldn’t work for this game. However, they are now trying to justify their case, whether the development team will revoke their suspension.

Some Steam Deck users have reported that there could be a workaround available that allows for uninterrupted gameplay. One player is recommending streaming the game from PC, although this may not give you the excellent gameplay that native streaming can offer. But, because Honkai: Star Rail is a turn-based RPG, this workaround may not significantly affect the whole experience.

With the enthusiastic recall of the early versions of Genshin Impact on the Nintendo Switch, it is likely that those who eagerly await the Steam Deck and the PS5 and PS4 versions of Honkai: Star Rail are eager to play. It is important to be aware, however, that the development team has not yet officially announced Genshin Impact for the Switch and are yet to release this version of the game. Players may enjoy these games on mobile devices, but for some, playing on a dedicated handheld device would be the preferred option.

The suspension of accounts points to the danger of playing third-party games on a Steam Deck. We therefore recommend that Steam Deck users should be cautious about what games and launchers they play on this device to avoid having their accounts suspended. Honkai: Star Rail is available now for PC and mobile devices, and while Steam Deck users may have a workaround, it is recommended that they don’t attempt to play the game on the handheld device until more information is released about playing the game on Steam Deck.
